Last night we decided to go to White Ranch Open Space to watch the supermoon rise over Denver. Excited about taking pictures, I found our camera. We stopped for snacks and left town.
We didn't get to White Ranch. We found this instead:
We knew there was a fire raging. We just didn't know it was about to crest this ridge. Nor did anyone else. While we watched, the pine forest began to steam - the first in the process of catching on fire.
We turned around just before they closed the road. The fire continues to spread this morning.
There is nothing in this world that compares to the incredible power of forest fire. It destroys everything in its path. Fire is only awesome power and destruction. Where I grew up, the mountains burned every summer.
But forest fire in March? It's going to be a tough spring and summer.
