I've started working with Pema Chodron's Compassion Cards this year. I pick a card every week, put it somewhere I can see it, and try to focus on this lesson.
One lesson a week.
This week it's : "Don't talk about injured limbs."
On the back it says: "Don't try to build yourself up by talking about others defects."
In our current world of zero-sum, one up manship, it's good to remember that other people's defects belong to them, just as your defect belong to you.
Building yourself up by putting someone else down is like building a house on sand. Your defects will soon undermine you.
Focus on your own life. It's not up to me to point out other people defects just as it's not up to someone else to point out my defects.
We are all moving through our own journey at our own pace.
"Don't talk about injured limbs" encourages me to be kind in my thoughts and speech, including thoughts about myself.
