KIND (adj.)
- chiefly dialect : affectionate , loving
- a: of a sympathetic or helpful nature b: of a forbearing nature : gentle c: arising from or characterized by sympathy or forbearance <a kind act>
- of a kind to give pleasure or relief --Merriam-Webster
I love looking up words. Merriam-Webster dilligently tells me that kind means affectionate or loving. It also tells me that 'kind' is an adjective.
To me, kind is a way of life.
For the last year, I have strived to be kind over being right, perfect, smart, wealthy, beautiful, or.... In some cases, that meant that I ended relationships. In other situations, I said nothing. Still others, I spoke the painful truth knowing it was a kindness.
The word 'kind' has become a 'doing' word.
To that end, I am launching Simply Kind Tuesdays today, US election day 2008. This meme is designed to bring a day of kindness to our blogs.
Why?
Kind acts are under-reported. Kind words are often unsaid. Kind thoughts rarely get spoken. And frankly, no matter who wins, our country needs our kindness. The world needs our kindness. Now more than ever.
Every Tuesday, I'll write about kindness. I'll share stories of kind acts, talk about kindness, or maybe surprise you with a song or video.
Join me, if you will, on your blog. The rules are fairly simple. Just write about kindness on Tuesdays. Even one line will do. You can sign up on the Everyday Kindness page or just leave your link here.
"Once you begin to acknowledge random acts of kindness-
both the ones you have received and the ones you have given-
you can no longer believe that what you do does not matter."
