It’s common here in the United States to say, “I am against the war.” I always want to ask exactly which war people are against.
When you look at this list? Ask yourself: “How many of these wars are about oil?” (I count twelve – enough to give “oil conservation” new meaning, eh?)
You can make a difference! Here’s how:
- Conquer the violence in your own heart. Violence begins in our hearts and spreads to our neighbors, communities, cities, nations and the world. Work to conquer the violence against yourself, then against other people.
- Every abusive thing you think and say generates more violence and more war. Think about it. If prayers are thought, aren’t you praying for war?
- November 7th is blog peace day. The idea is to blog and post your peace globe on November 7, 2007. If you’d like to get your own globe, click here.
- Practice kindness. Use your words for kindness. Do one kind action in your day. Think kind thoughts. Try it.

So. Are you saying we should move to Canada?
I am thinking that Canada is a little too close to home. Finland is lovely. I vote for Finland.
That’s the most depressing list i have ever seen.
There must be something we like about war, something about it works for us.
Christy – No. I’m saying that we need to look at our own hearts. We need to search out our own judgements. We will only achieve peace when we find it in our hearts.
ADW – There’s mandatory conscription in Finland – and they are very close to Russia which means that they are close to other oil related conflicts. Look at your heart – that is enough.
Meno – I know. And these are not all the conflicts, just the ones going on in the world right now. And, as you may know, it doesn’t include the insurgency in Mexico and the Xinka in Guatemala.
Excellent post. Excellent.
These are beautiful words, so deceptively simple.
Would that we could all achieve such beautiful simplicity.
Our violence is destroying the world and all who live in it. We have not progressed in spirit since the first upright hominid killed his neighbor for the rights to a cave or a bison.
We have been given everything, and abused it miserably.
I’m creating my own society where I rule as fascist dictator (kinda like Venezuela’s Chavez). I doubt we’d have war in my society (Bimboland) because I’d keep everybody in line with my mesmerizing … eyes. Bet ya didn’t think I’d say THAT.
But seriously, there certainly isn’t a shortage of death in this world.
Mr. Fab – Thanks. I’ve been thinking about posting this for a while but alway chickened out.
Heart in SF – Yes.
BottleBlonde – It might interest you to know that Venezuela is projected as the next conflict. I give you three guesses why. (Ok, you’re right. OIL) I think Bimboland would be kind of fun for a while.
It is scarey! And you’re right. We have to get rid of the hatred in our hearts in order to create a peaceful world.
I love your peace globe!
Peace
Geeez, I didn’t realize there were so many going on.
Thanks for the enlightenment.
Odat – What’s scary is how little we hear about all of these conflicts! Peace in our hearts… that’s where it starts.
Slick – I know. Isn’t that odd? It makes me really wonder about our press….
What a great post. Thanks for bringing light to this. And we sit here worrying about what Britney Spears is doing. Which is absolutely ridiculous.
Nila – Maybe we feel like we have more control over Britney than the wars of the world? I don’t know.
Amazing post. I’m going to keep this link handy to remind myself of all that is going on in our world. I love what you said about thoughts and creating our world with kindness. It’s a lovely globe. One I will proudly add to the gallery tonight. Can’t wait to read what you write on November 7, 2007!
Peace,
Mimi
Mimi – Thank you for making it possible. You’re a star!
